I’ve got a different sort of synth sound in mind – a little more organic. Hopefully I’ll have something to show soon!

I was going for cool and diffrent how about using a moog that would be neat.
Also you wife is a pretty singer ypu should let her do a song on her own.

Brian Hazard April 7, 2011 at 3:59 am

A little too old school for my tastes.

I say the harpsaccord

Hijack away! These are totally the types of questions I’m looking for as I brainstorm what to try next. I’m not really planning much in the way of female bvox, but I haven’t really thought that far ahead! Right now I’m just trying to set down some limitations and narrow down my sonic palette.

Terence March 22, 2011 at 9:09 pm

I guess that’s why I’m listening for another voice there, you’re doing it that way already. Anyway, I know this isn’t the type of questions/comments you were looking for here, thanks for letting me hijack them.

One last: how big of a part are female back-up vocals in the next album? I’m assuming little to none.

Brian Hazard March 22, 2011 at 9:03 pm

I’m already singing in three-part harmony. How much more do you want? ;)

Terence March 22, 2011 at 9:01 pm

I hear the backup vocals in the chorus of It Must Be Halloween, even though they totally aren’t there.

Brian Hazard March 22, 2011 at 8:59 pm

I intended female backing vocals to be a big part of that album’s sound from the start, not just an afterthought as “background” vocals sometimes are. IMHO it really gives that album an identity. It affects the lyric writing as well, as some of the songs are nearly duets.

Thanks for the kind words!

Terence March 22, 2011 at 8:54 pm

Well her voice goes perfect with yours. And I’m sure you know, since you’re the genius who wrote the songs, some songs like Behind The Rhine, it’s the backup vocals that make the song.

When I first heard The Sound, I felt like something was missing… it just complements so well, in my opinion.

I guess the only thing better than one Hazard is two?

Brian Hazard March 22, 2011 at 8:45 pm

Talk to my wife! It’s am improbable possibility.

Terence March 22, 2011 at 8:38 pm

I miss the backup vocals of Thought Chapter. Any chance we could hear more of that in the future?

Brian Hazard March 3, 2011 at 2:24 am

I haven’t even tried it yet, so I can’t really make a strong recommendation. I’ve used Battery, but mostly raw samples. All the drums and percussion on The Thought Chapter and Second Thoughts was done with a Reaktor ensemble called Limelite.

Brian Hazard March 3, 2011 at 2:23 am

I’m not sure how licensable (new word?) that would be. I’m pretty sure that’s not what they’re looking for.

Jason Baker March 3, 2011 at 12:03 am

How about covering one of his songs from the movie Labyrinth ?

Caius March 2, 2011 at 10:43 pm

Do you recommend Konkrete Drums? I don’t really have the money to buy any nice synths (yet), but I at least know a few places to find decent ones. Percussion sounds… I don’t even know where to start. What have you used in the past?

Brian Hazard March 2, 2011 at 9:54 pm

I’m going to be doing a lot of experimentation, for sure. Mostly electronic textures is my guess right now.

Pablo March 2, 2011 at 9:22 pm

Hi Dear Brian!!

Wich path do you gonna make for this new record?, any chances to go back to the pure piano sound?, electronic side only? or a combination of styles??

Cheers from Mexico!!

Brian Hazard March 2, 2011 at 4:31 pm

I just may one of these days!

Creepy_boy73 March 2, 2011 at 3:13 pm

Hey Brian, why don´t you try to remake songs by Cammouflage, Red Flag, Cause and Effect or erasure? They will sound really magical with your voice and talent!
