If that’s the case, it wasn’t a conscious decision on my part. I just turn the knobs until it sounds good! I haven’t tried this, but my guess is if you put both albums in the same playlist and shuffle, they’d sound pretty consistent beyond the overall volume difference. Maybe the new one has a little more polish? I’d like to think I’m getting better.
I was wondering how come you decided to have this album sound so different from the last one, in terms of.. well, your vocals don’t sound as pronounced in the mix. Was there a reason for that?
I think this is a great album so far, despite having no earphones and listening to it off laptop speakers at work. Soon enough, I’ll get me a pair of buds and your actual CD for my listening pleasure. Good job Brian.
Got my pre-order today and i haven’t stopped listening. Its a great album, Backseat and Two are my particular favourites right now, though The Thought Chapter (and its follow up EP) is still my number one Color Theory album! The Sound seems like a slightly more softer cousin to TTC
We’re having a rather involved discussion on the topic on my Facebook profile:

Excellent post/reply Brian. I completely agree with putting your music out there for the masses to enjoy. The Sound has my vote for my favorite Color Theory album.
That’s a great question Kenny, and one I’ve given a lot of thought to. Many people listen to the album here and don’t bother to buy it. Heck, they can even stream it to their iPhone from Bandcamp, and listen on the go. Even if I didn’t make it so easy, they could hear the whole album on Mog, Rhapsody, Rdio, or Spotify (which still hasn’t launched in the US). If all else fails, they could locate a torrent and download it illegally. My point is, if someone wants to hear it for free, I can’t stop them. Fortunately, I don’t want to!
The money I get from Spotify and the other subscription services is negligible. We’re talking pennies. I’d just as soon have people listen here. Maybe they’ll look around, get to know me and my music, and decide it’s worth supporting. Maybe they’ll join my mailing list to download a few more songs, and become passionate and vocal fans. Who knows? The one thing I do know is this: it all starts with a listen.
Hi Brian I am listening to your album and enjoying it but I am wondering why you are letting people stream the entire album this way. There’s no incentive to buy it now and as far as I know you’re not getting any pay per play money from it. Just curious as to why you’re not using Spotify for this. The digipak is tempting though I am no longer a CD man these days
Just downloaded and it is a wonderful album. Should provide good listening on tomorrows drive to work. I will keep my fingers crossed for some new singles or EP action this fall. Second Thoughts was a wonderful way to prolong my love of The Thought Chapter.
Love the results Brian … this is definitely a complete and cohesive collection – you did a great job of editing yourself down from the many song ideas you started out with. I’ll be ordering from ADD – I want to support the indy stores and the artists where ever possible.
CD came today! Looks and sounds fantastic Brian. Congrats!
Thanks for the kind words! It weird to have 600 hours of work squashed into a 47 minute listening experience. I’m excited that you’re all finally hearing it!
Seriously…your music just gets better with every release, Brian! “A Safe Distance” is definitely my favorite…love everything about it! Especially the vocals!
awesome Brian i bought it on itunes and ordered a copy on your site hopefully the other songs that didn’t make the album will see a future release because they are just as awesome as the Sound
Congratulations Brian, it’s just so great! I’m so excited about the album! Yeahh…
Hey Brian I just wanted to congratulate you! I just listened to it now all together for the first time and I am so amazed at how wonderful it sounds. I already want to cover Extroverts at Play sometime!
Nice! Can’t wait to get my copy in the mail.
