My friend Todd Durrant, owner of label and online store A Different Drum, has noticed that a new release’s “sales window” has been progressively shortening. After nine months, that window appears to be closing on The Thought Chapter, and I’m still $721 shy of breaking even on it. June income totaled $410, versus $315 in May. It appears to be a slight improvement only because I didn’t meet the $100 payment threshold for digital sales in May. Subtracting out sales from Second Thoughts (an EP, not a true album – less than 20 copies left!), t-shirts, and download-only exclusives leaves $345 in actual album sales, mostly from The Thought Chapter and Color Theory presents Depeche Mode.

That brings the total of physical CDs I’ve sold or otherwise parted with to 5,325. For more details, see my running tally of profit/loss figures for each album.
Considering how much sales have slowed down, and how busy I am with other projects, I’m going to switch from monthly to quarterly reporting. Look for the first quarterly report in October!

The only real question now is whether or not you enjoyed the cool breeze while the window was still open
