Probably quicker and cheaper to just get it from me, but either way, thanks!

I really like the artwork. Well done!

Brian Hazard July 13, 2010 at 4:59 pm

Oops! Now I see several entries on Amazon. Maybe I searched from my phone! I guess that just means it’s a good title. ;)

Ken July 13, 2010 at 4:23 pm

Interesting backstory. As for the title, I have to admit I was a little dismayed: One of my favorite albums from last year is “The Sound” by Mackintosh Braun. I’m surprised you didn’t see it on Amazon, that’s where I got the MP3s. Now I will have to qualify my statement “One of my favorite albums is The Sound [by CT or MB].” (See, e.g., above sentence. ;) I also got into the band “The Sounds” so even more sorting mayhem for my digital library!

Nevertheless I’m looking forward to the album! And I agree with everyone else, the cover looks awesome!

I’m excited you’re excited! :)

I don’t know who the model is, as usual. Feel free to imagine I’m at the shoot shifting her shoulders back and turning her cheek to face the camera at the proper angle, but this whole recording artist thing is seldom that glamorous. The last cover model I knew was Nomi, whose “outgoing leg” was featured on the Perfect Tears cover in 1999.

Here’s how I decided on the title – at first, the only real contender was Distant Lovers & Fictional Heroes, drawn from the chorus lyric of Too Close. Then I thought European White Disco might work, because that was the name of the band I was in in college. The Thought Chapter was the name of the band I was in in high school, so continuing that theme made sense. While EWD is certainly attention-grabbing, it doesn’t have much emotional resonance. Over time I felt it came off a little too slick.

The Sound came to me out of nowhere, and I appreciate its direct simplicity. I couldn’t believe it hadn’t been used before as an album title (at least on Amazon). The problem was, it had no real connection to any of the songs. But that was okay, because at the time there were plenty of songs left to write, and the title would influence my direction moving forward. Maybe I’d even write a “title track” to match. I’m always bouncing ideas off of Thomas (webmaster of the German fansite colortheory.de), so he knew where things stood. He noticed Andy’s lyrical suggestion for Song Named After a Girl made the words “the sound” the centerpiece of the song. So that cinched it – I went with a variation on that suggestion, and the rest is history. Thanks again Andy!

That is seriously one of the coolest album covers I have ever seen. Seriously.

zsasz July 13, 2010 at 11:36 am

cannot wait for this. though i truly do look forward to hearing Touch in future.

Erika Nilsson July 13, 2010 at 6:27 am

Ooh, exciting! I’m really happy Extroverts At Play and Living A Boy’s Adventure Tale made it, and I can’t wait to hear what The Rule of Tickles sounds like!

Too bad Touch didn’t make it – I’ll just have to wait for the follow-up EP … :)

Andy July 13, 2010 at 6:25 am

What is this “the Sound” thing about?

When I wrote my suggestion for the “Song Named After a Girl” lyrics Thomas wrote:
“Notice the last line, so now here it is Brian: “… the sound”!”

Is this kind of an insider joke?

Tyler King July 13, 2010 at 1:19 am

And I was so looking forward to European White Disco being the title.

Rob July 13, 2010 at 1:08 am

BTW, it kinda reminds me of the covers for She Wants Revenge’s two albums only this time she let her hair grow and now she’s had a change of ‘heart’.

Rob July 13, 2010 at 1:06 am

Great to hear Brian. Who’s the cover model? Those moist lips make me wanna buy the LP. >; )

Caius July 12, 2010 at 11:57 pm

A special pre-order bonus? Just might be enough to convince me to buy the physical disc version this time around. I guess that’s the idea though, eh?

Derek July 12, 2010 at 11:05 pm

Great news! I’ll be first in line when it comes out…

Brian Hazard July 12, 2010 at 10:33 pm

I’ve got something very special planned! You’ll be able to order soon.

Denis TS July 12, 2010 at 10:12 pm

Congrats! It’s surely gonna be one of the best releases for me this year! Brian, do you plan on a pre-order thing? Or we’ll have to have the patience till Aug.04? :)

Brian Hazard July 12, 2010 at 8:50 pm

Thanks! I’m planning to include Release the Hounds, Touch, Waiting in the Wings, maybe a radio edit of Two, and the best remixes that come in, on a follow-up EP.

Rain July 12, 2010 at 8:03 pm

The cover looks great Brian! I’m sad there is no Release the Hounds, though! But, many congrats! Especially, on making that deadline!

AL Duque July 12, 2010 at 7:21 pm

Can’t wait!!!!

Monty Singleton July 12, 2010 at 6:54 pm

Woohoo! You actually made the deadline!

Great cover too.

so happy for you! and so excited! :D

Brian Hazard July 12, 2010 at 5:16 pm

If it gets you to take a sip, I suppose it is!

Chrishall July 12, 2010 at 5:08 pm

Wow, that looks awesome! Even if I didn’t know your music, I would be tempted by the cover art!

On a related note, is music cover art like wine bottle art?

Jeff Shattuck July 12, 2010 at 5:06 pm

Cool cover. Cool player, too, trying to get one for myself now!

Brian Hazard July 12, 2010 at 4:56 pm

MySpace is pretty low on my priority list, but since you asked, I just added “It Must Be Halloween” and “Living a Boy’s Adventure Tale.” Those aren’t really the “hits,” but they’ll work for now. You’ll find them at the bottom because I can’t change the order of my songs on the site due to a bug. I forgot how much fun MySpace can be!

David Watwood July 12, 2010 at 3:51 pm

Hi Brian
quik question are you going to add the new songs on myspace anytime soon ?
